The Death of Princess Diana
The untimely death of Princess Diana on the 31st August 1997 shocked the world. Offical reports issued by the French police, the French courts and six years later by Lord Stevens Paget report, deemed the car crash that took her life was an accident caused by driver, Henri Paul who was said to be three times over the drink drive limit.
More than a decade later, the answers provided by official reports leave many questions unanswered, culminating in countless conspiracy theories. We don’t have to examine them all, but let’s take a look at the most bemusing.
One of the most ridiculous responses given by the authorities relates to CCTV footage - or rather the complete lack of it. Between the Ritz hotel and the Alma tunnel there are 10 CCTV cameras stationed by the side of the road. There are a further 17 cameras situated in the Alma underpass. Yet none of the 27 cameras captured any footage of the Mercedes carrying the Princess. Official reports claimed the 10 roadside cameras were privately owned and not maintained by the city. They also reported that all the cameras had been pointing at private buildings. Who believes that cameras stationed along the side of the road don’t point towards the road? Further, none of the owners of these so called “private”cameras have come forward to confirm the claims. Investigating authorities further stated that the 17 cameras in the L’Alma tunnel had been switched off at 11pm that night when the shift ended. If that were true, why did a motorist passing through the tunnel shortly before Diana’s Mercedes get issued with a speeding ticket.
Henri Paul was blamed for the accident. Blood tests said to be taken from his corpse identified traces of alcohol, together with carbon monoxide traces of 20.7%. Officials say this was due to heavy smoking and gas released from the split airbag of the Mercedes and the smashed oil tank. Mercedes don’t put CO2 in their airbags and a heavy smoker does not have CO2 content of more than 8%. Further, why did French courts order Henri Paul’s family to dispose of the remains immediately and forbid them to take blood tests or DNA extractions? It’s also strange that the blood test that were attributed to Henri Paul were destroyed.
